Photos and Useful Information About Welshpool
The Australian country town of Welshpool can be found on the South Gippsland Highway between Foster and Yarram and lies 6 kilometres inland from Port Welshpool.
The Welshpool Township – has a pub, post office, Murray Goulburn Farm Supplies, Fish and Chip Shop, two service stations, a school and kindergarten, Rural Banking Centre with Internet access, a taxi service, Motorcycle Shop, Rural Fire Station, Town Hall, Golf Club and several other shops. The supermarket carries a reasonable range of supplies and has a coffee shop and ice-cream stand if you feel like stopping for a treat.
Parkland in Welshpool – The park next to the main set of shops on the South Gippsland Highway in Welshpool has a drink fountain and newly built, clean public toilet block. It is flanked by a giant ship anchor and the gardens have been freshly planted with hardy Australian native plants and other ornamentals. You can enjoy a picnic on the park benches or just sit and enjoy the peace and quiet. The expansive lawn provides a great place for children to run and play.
Welshpool Flower Show – The Welshpool & District Horticultural Society hosts a popular flower show each year with over 400 entries submitted from a range of locations in South Gippsland. I am told that the vegetable exhibit was one of the highlights this year. They also provide lovely home made Devonshire Teas and hot soup as well as other light refreshments.
The Walking Track – An enjoyable 6 kilometre walk between Welshpool and Port Welshpool has found the need to have a walking track constructed to add to the enjoyment of people who frequent the location. The first stage was completed through to the recreation reserve and the trail now runs the entire distance between Leongatha and Port Welshpool. The gates between sections have been made secure so users are unable to open the gates, however, they can get through using the chichanes. Welshpool Art And Craft Show – This well attended Art and Craft show is held in the Welshpool Memorial Hall each Queens Birthday weekend, from Friday to Sunday. The official opening is on the Friday night when the prize winners are announced. With over $600 worth of prizes to be won, this exhibition attracts high quality entries. Sections include photography, painting, craft and young artists will receive special awards as well. This year there will also be a display of indigenous artwork over the weekend for you to enjoy. The Real Estate – House prices are very affordable in Welshpool and there are some real gems to be found. I suspect it is one of those country towns that will boom when the Port Welshpool development takes off and with more employment on the cards at the Esso Plant at Barry Beach, it can happen at any time.
