Port Albert...

The beautiful little fishing village and trendy resort of Port Albert is located approximately 209 kilometers south-east of Melbourne. The real estate, houses, vacant blocks, and House and Land Packages are becoming very popular, especially with the holiday-home buyers from the city and sea-change lovers.

I suspect it will become as sought-after (and expensive) as Metung further up on the coast near the Gippsland Lakes, but a bargain or two can still be found here. Port Albert Township - A small town of around 300 people makes this an ideal place to relax and unwind. The historical buildings and recent boutique style property developments have led to an influx of city holiday makers. The nearest town of Yarram is the place to buy your major supplies.

Good Food Reputation - Besides the pub, public phone and toilet block, an art gallery and a nearby caravan park, there aren't many other facilities. But Port Albert is renowned for its fine restaurants and cafes, so make sure you stop and eat some award-winning fish and chips at the newly renovated Port Albert Wharf Fresh Fish And Chip Shop or enjoy a delicious meal on the balcony overlooking the water at the wildfish restaurant.

Have a locally produced glass of wine and some healthy organic food at the Custom House and drop in for coffee and a look around the unique pieces displayed in the gallery, at the fabulous General Store Cafe & Gallery.

Snapper Festival - Fishing competitions, kids fairs and treasure hunts, book launches, sailing races, roving entertainers, BBQ lunches, fresh produce market and the biggest garage sale in Gippsland are just a few of the exciting main attractions to get involved in each November at Port Albert's Snapper Festival...what great family fun! Other Things To Do - The Port Albert Maritime Museum is well worth a visit. Take an affordable but luxurious adventure cruise aboard Port Albert's 50 ft catamaran 'Nooramunga', or try a relaxing day trip to Wilsons Promontory through the ecologically protected Corner Inlet Marine Park. Go bird watching, fishing or trek the Old Port Walking Trail. I've heard that the Port Albert Regatta held in March each year is great fun to watch. 

Where to Stay - You'll find Bed & Breakfast accommodation, self contained cabins, caravan parks in the surrounding areas, motel rooms and a myriad of holiday rental properties to choose from. Port Albert Cottage is very reasonably priced, can comfortably sleep 10 guests and is also centrally  located for extra convenience. Places like "Blithe Spirit", (an enchanting double story residence overlooking the harbour) also provide respite care as well as homestay accommodation. How To Get To Port Albert - Port Albert is just over a 3 hour road trip from Melbourne along the South Gippsland Highway, through Korumburra, Leongatha, Foster and Welshpool. It's then only a short drive from where you turn-off at Alberton (just before the Shell service station).

An alternate route from Melbourne is to drive east along the Princes Highway to Traralgon, turn right towards Yarram on the Hyland Highway, then on to the South Gippsland Highway.

If you are traveling from New South Wales, take the Princes Highway to Sale, then the South Gippsland Highway through to Yarram.
