About Leongatha - The town with many churches, lovely gardens and surrounded by lush farming land, Leongatha can be found as you travel along the South Gippsland Highway between Korrumburra and Meeniyan and south of Mirboo North. Being around 100 km south-east of Melbourne it's a comfortable 1.5 hour drive which makes the town easily accessible by those who want the luxury of living in the country, yet close enough to work in the city.
Leongatha Is A Major Regional Center - with a 24 hour supermarket, several liquour stores, hotels, motels, popular cinema, state and private schools, good variety of accommodation options, Macdonalds, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Subway, Chinese and Pizza Restaurants, Takeaways, cafes, coffee shops and other fast food outlets.
Groups and Clubs - Many groups, clubs and non profit organisations are based in Lengatha with a Cycling Club, Camera Club, the Leongatha Lyric Theatre Group, South Gippsland Tourist Railway (soon to be part of the National Trust Heritage Festival). R.S.L, Rotary, golf club, country club, football, squash and cricket clubs, equestrian centre, dance academies and more.

Historic Buidings - Several old historic building line the center of town which include the post office (built in 1887), the Memorial Hall (1926) now used as a community art and craft gallery, court house (1912) and Mechanics Institute (1912) which has been transformed into the history museum.
The Murray Goulburn Dairy- situated just north of the main township in the industrial area, provides major employment for the region.
Supplying A Wide Local Area - The Leongatha retail shops, industrial area and professional suites, provide a primary source of hospital, medical, food and supplies for Wilson's Promontory and several of the surrounding towns such as Meeniyan, Koonwarra, Woreen, Kongwak, Nerrena, Dumbalk, Stony Creek, Tarwin Lower, Buffalo, Fish Creek, Mirboo North and even as far away as Foster and the local South Gippsland Shire Council Offices are conveniently located here too.
Parks and Gardens - The main streets are lined with thriving seasonal plantings and the Leongatha Daffodil Festival is a highlight during late autumn and early spring.
Other Things To Do While In Leongatha - Take a tour of the many quality wineries on the South Gippsland Wine Trail, go to the Rotary Club Market on the 4th Sunday of every month in the Safeway Carpark or try one of the other farmers, craft, secondhand and produce markets in the area, take a memorable day trip to Wilsons Prom National Park, see a movie or theatre production, visit the museum or local art and craft gallery, enjoy a picnic in one of the parks, go for a walk or hire a bike and take the smooth gravel road on the The Great Southern Rail Trail towards Meeniyan, Koonwarra, Stony Creek, Fish Creek, Foster and Toora ... with the trail soon to extend to Welshpool and finally end up at Yarram.
