Harris's Pit Stop Cafe - Meeniyan
Well, this little cafe in the heart of Meenyan (on the way to Wilsons Promontory) has so much character, I just had to show you the photographs.
The cafe isn't glamorous or pretentious, it isn't even particularly pretty, but the owners are incredibly friendly and they've built a really good business. The day I dropped in to take pictures, I met a regular customer who had driven quite a distance from another town just to enjoy a light breakfast in this really special atmosphere.
Inside the cafe, you'll find an amazing array of old Australian icons and Motor Racing memorabilia, such as Golden Fleece Petrol Bowser, Polly Gas and original Coca Cola signage.
It also makes me wonder what stories lie behind the interesting painted windows of a Monaro GTS leaving Allan Moffats race car in the dust...mmmm, I'll have to find out the gossip on that one!
But instead of waffling on about this unique place, I suggest you drop in, have a bite to eat and find out for yourself...and by the way, Meeniyan is also the home town of the ABC mini-series "Bed Of Roses".
How To Get To Meeniyan - When traveling from Melbourne, find your way to the South Gippsland Highway. You'll first drive through Korumburra, Leongatha and Koonwarra before you get to Meeniyan. If you see the Stony Creek Racecourse, you've gone too far. Harris's Pit Stop Cafe is on the right hand side of the road just after you see the first set of shops.
